impossible.search

returns only results for things that don't exist yet ✺

What is this

The Impossible Search Engine is a speculative search tool from tinythings.fun that returns results only for things that don't exist yet — patents for unbuilt inventions, papers for unconducted research, products for ideas still in someone's head. A library of potential, organised by what hasn't happened yet.

Why we built it

Every search engine indexes what already exists. We built one that indexes what could exist. The Impossible Search is a thought experiment: what if the web were full of everything we haven't made yet? What would you look up?

How to use it

  1. Type any search query — as specific or as speculative as you like.
  2. The engine returns results for things that could exist in that space.
  3. Browse the results.
  4. Follow the ideas wherever they go.

Can I submit ideas?
Not currently — the results are generated rather than curated.
